Yet another early morning game - yet another Friday evening event for Theresa (party girl or what!) Karen's back problem, Jaynie's foot problem, Elaine's age problem, and no subs, another day in paradise. Also being told that one of their squad has been picked for England only made the day complete - ok under 15 squad, but still England.

We again didn't have time for a proper warm up although, once called to start we had to wait for Horsham to change goalie as the first was injured during their warm up. Not realsing this was happening until too late, we didn't take advantage of the situation and hit a few balls around, so not the best preparation.

We started quite brightly and strung some good passing moves together, however we were still a bit lack lustre and were beaten to the ball on several occasions. When we lost (or gave away the ball) Horsham quickly attacked and would have been ahead fairly shortly had not Mandy and Sophie intervened. They did score though with a tremendous cross from the right which we all left for their winger to put in from the far post.

Although down after this we managed to secure some short corners and were thwarted by their substitute goalie. Horshan scored their second when the centre forward threw her 5ft 11inch frame full stretch at the ball and deflected it past Sophie. Half time came with Christmas Haribos to give us the sugar rush we needed. Jaynie had to move to the back as her foot was very sore. Karen soldiered on, wanting the ball attacking whenever she could - perhaps she should always wear those sticky warm things (no- I'm not saying where!).

With renewed strength we carried the game to them and after another short, Lorrie passed the ball to Theresa who slotted the ball home. However, the zippy little England player, who no-one could tackle, (although we did try Karen - honest), weaved her way through for a fantastic individual goal. Lorrie tried her best by slicing one in the air from a short, but was penalised for it being too high (close though).

All in all a frustrating day, passing to the opposition, tackling with our backs to the player, tackling from behind, watching them run passed you (that's me!), and then a very long queue to get out the car park!! Back to basics at training I think - that is if people turn up - it's difficult with work and family commitments, but it shows at the weekend that we do need it.

Many thanks to Chris Wheeldon for umpiring - I hope you got the beer(s) waiting for you at the clubhouse - and someone to drive you home!

Come on girls we can do better than this, let's get back to how we were a couple of years ago and be positive, we can do it, and we will.
