I think for the first time in a while we played like hockey players knowing our results had not always echoed our efforts. Compensating for the fact we were 1 man down & with a junior goalie that made his debut for the 5's today. We played like a team that had been playing together for years. An inspiring pre match team talk from the Skipper set us off. We played the ball around the opposition like pro's I know you don't believe me but look at the result!
The gospels used their speed to run the Saxon defence into the ground with support from our very own imported South African Mark and the club web master Simon Sayazdi. A guest appearance from Aaron gave the gospels the confidence to play the simple ball and move into space working nicely together to create an attacking force, which would have sent the Normans running. The skipper held the every pressing forwards and the defence together making Saxons unable to do any real damage. On occasion our concentration lapsed and we allowed Saxons to control the game. They came running at us with 5 forwards. Our defence which consisted of Dave Lock (The Wall) Ian (pick pocket) Burbiek and Mags (I’ll take my time. Father to be You little) Hussey. Was I meant to mention that Mags??? Not to mention newcomer Lighting Joe (Goalkeeper) who made a few photo graphic saves. (Mum was watching) This defence kept the Saxons having to rethink their attack methods. Running at Dave Lock is never a good idea! Mags and Ian used their eye for the ball to rob the opposition at every chance. A big thanks goes to Luke Helmer and Dave Parson who are both promising young Umpires willing to umpire. Thanks also to James (Skipper) Collet who has the hardest Job. Being a captain is not easy especially the lower teams.
