Match Report(s)

This third and fourth place match was always going to be a tight one and after a stern lecture about coming out of the blocks fast and taking the game to Chichester the Tigers promptly went 1-0 down and looked as if the early start was all too much and another couple of hours in bed was what they needed!! However, eventually, things started to gell with Sam Wookey moving into mid-field and having a storming game, but there was a feeling that this maybe one of those matches where it may not happen as the applied  pressure brought a string of fine saves from the Chichester keeper and along the way we hit the post, crossbar, opposition, each other and did everything but score. The breakthrough came after another short corner and Charles McCall bagging the first of his two for the day.Half time came and a friendly word from Pete Barter saw a more focused Tigers putting more pressure on Chichester, but with their keeper in outstanding form nerves were becoming frayed, until Alex Minchel broke the deadlock and 2-1 to the Tigers.Sam Gill was outstanding at right back making some superb runs and was well supported by Nathan Jenkins, however everybody went to sleep on a free hit just outside the D and when the ball was driven into the far post, an unmarked Chichester player had a simple tap in for 2-2.Tigers pushed forward again and the game swung on a disallowed goal for Chichester, for an obvious foot, and the Tigers then going up the other end and getting a well deserved P-flick, as their adult stopped a goalbound shot on the line with his foot. This was converted via both the keepers pads, stick, helmet etc By Charles McCall to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory. In between all of this Ben Harvey sustained a full-bloodied drive onto his instep from the Chichester adult, which was a total accident, and surrounded by the travelling Mothers of mercy, found himself in an ambulance to Chichester A&E with a suspected broken foot.My thanks to Peter Barter as always and Luke Helmer for umpiring.A special thanks to the parents for their help with Ben and to Kathy Minchel for going in the ambulance and then sitting with us (in the comfy chair!!!) for three hours in A&E, which i am pleased to report was confrmed as tissue damage, not a fracture.
