Match Report – Worthing Ladies 1 versus Burgess Hill 1 - By Georgia

Worthing Ladies went 3-2 down at St Andrews despite numerous goal scoring chances. The Burgess Hill goalie definitely deserved their man of the match as she saved attack after attack including numerous corners.

First to score was us in open play with a well worked pass from Lucy to Toni who scored but Burgess Hill soon hit back with a lucky breakaway goal and at half time the match was all square 1-1.

We changed our formation with Toni and Diva playing wider and looked threatening with chance after chance but it was one of those days when it proved almost impossible to get the ball past the keeper.

Burgess Hill scored after we lost focus waiting for a short corner to be awarded against us. They carried on playing and were rewarded with a scrappy goal.

We fought back with renewed determination and excellent team-play and stick skills from Shelley and Toni. Gemma made a good attacking dribble and won a short corner which Diva deservedly put away with an excellent strike.

Much to the spectators disappointment Burgess Hill got another break which resulted in them pulling off the winning goal. Time ran out before Worthing could gain an equaliser.

Special mention must go to a strong defence with Heather holding the back together and Kirsty who valiantly stood in as goalie making a number of good saves.

The appalling weather did not dampen our efforts and we played excellently as a team. We should definitely should have come out on top but Burgess Hill got lucky and snatched an unlikely victory.
