Worthing Llamas 0          Horsham Hostars 4

When the team turned up for the warm – up, it was pouring with rain, which did not bode well. However, it was only a shower and it stayed clear for the rest of the match, which was played under floodlights.

Whilst chatting to the Horsham coach, we found out that their U14 team had an important match against Sutton the next day, so they were playing a very strong team against the Llamas to get some practice. This became apparent as the match progressed. Even though they only had a squad of 9 players, they worked well as a team, aided and abetted by their Regional sweeper who had an outstanding game.

Claire, Catherine and Angelica made a few breaks into their ‘D’ but the defence was very strong and the Llamas were prevented from scoring.

We were lucky to be only 2-0 down at half – time, thanks to some superb saves by Ann and brilliant defending by Sian and Breanna, backed up by Gail and Mary.

Laura, Romey and Nicole worked tirelessly in midfield, helping to attack and defend as required.

Horsham scored another 2 goals in the second half, but were denied any more by great defensive work by the whole Llamas team. At one point, Claire ran the length of the pitch, going from defence to attack in the space of a minute!

Many thanks to Andy Allan for giving advice from the touchline and to all the friends and family who supported the team.

The girls really appreciate it and find it very encouraging.

I would also like to thank Sam Wookey for his excellent umpiring – he was very fair!
