Worthing Llamas 2                  Lewes Lionesses            3

Submitted By: Manisha Fritche

Despite a stormy night with lots of trees littering the roads of Sussex, the Llamas fixture went ahead as scheduled.

It was a cold and blustery afternoon, and rain threatened but did not appear. The wind, however, was a great hindrance and the players had great difficulty controlling the ball.

The Llamas started well, attacking into wind. A great move from defender Sian to Romey in midfield who passed to Claire and found Angelica in space to have a great strike. This was tipped in at the post by Catherine to take the lead

1 – 0.

The girls struggled with the conditions, but finished 1-1 at half time after a well-deserved goal by Lewes who had put all the pressure on.

After a good team talk, the Llamas started off strong again, attacking well but missed a few chances by going down the centre instead of out wide to use the wings.

Another good attacking move saw the Llamas score their second goal by Nicole after a great set up by Claire again.

However, the defenders struggled to get back quickly enough when under attack – they looked as if they were wading through treacle – and Lewes took their opportunities well and scored twice to win 3-2.

It was a very closely fought match with some excellent saves by Ann in goal and the girls were unlucky to not come away with a draw.

All in all, the teamwork was excellent on the pitch and the Lewes coach remarked how much the Llamas have improved from last season.

I would like to extend thanks to Toni and Shelly from the 1s who played well in defence and also to Mel Andrews and Luke Helmer for umpiring the match.
