With a weeks break after BBHC postponed our game due to a waterlogged pitch, the boys were chomping at the bit for a game of hockey. This weekend saw the team at full strength with everyone available and fit and it showed how dominating we could be. Worthing started the game a little on the back foot as Crawley put their defence under pressure for the first 10 minutes with a lot of the possession in the Crawley attacking half and veteran goalkeeper Chris Wheeldon making some fantastic saves to keep the scores level. A quick break down the right hand side and a great cross from Rob Lowe opened the scoring for Worthing with a diving reverse deflection from Chris Marr. With Worthing now finding their feet they then put the ball in the back of the net twice more through Lowe and Dan Ginnaw before Captain Ansell found himself in space off a great through ball from Grant Sawyer where he calmly pushed the ball past the keeper to give him is first goal for the season and Worthing’s fourth going into half time.
The second half saw Worthing stretch their legs and really stamp their authority on the game and the league with Ginnaw netting 4 more goals, Vice captain Chris Sciandro netting his first goal for the season with some good follow up work and strong stick skills off a broken down pc to flick it in the back of the goal. Lowe took Worthing to double figures with his second. Crawley bagged two consolation goals in the second half but never looked to threaten the Worthing defence.
Team: Chris Wheeldon, James Godber, Jimmy Pease, Alex Warner, Dave Beales, Chris Sciandro (1 Goal), Grant Sawyer, Craig Paterson, Dan Ginnaw (5 Goals), Chris Marr (1 Goal), Rob Lowe (2 Goals), Mike Gubbins, Matt Ansell (1 Goal), Matt Sewell
