Worthing 2nd XI  2 v 2  South Saxons 1st XI

Scorers: B.Lock, Ramiz

The top of the table clash started terribly for the home side as we gave away possession and found ourselves a goal down inside 30 secs. The fact that Chris Wheeldon made a fine save to deny the first shot and that nobody had reacted to that, enabling the Saxons striker to score the follow up, was very disappointing.

It did at least stir us into action and put some pressure on the Saxons defence. Stuart Barter had a fine game in midfield, closing down and winning us plenty of ball. It was his excellent pass that released Minch in the D, but his elegant swing only resulted in a shanked effort wide of the post! From our first short corner, an enterprising switch move saw the ball diverted back to Adam Stephens, the injector, who couldn't apply the finish with the goal at his mercy! Was this not to be our day?

Eventually the stickwork of Lock worked an opening in the D and he popped in the equaliser. The momentum was now definitely with the home side. Unfortunately some more sloppy play, this time from the skipper, gifted Saxons possession in midfield. They broke down filed and without a challenge being made, slotted home to take a 2-1 lead into half time.

The 2nd half was all about Worthing pressing for the equaliser. South Saxons did defend well, it certainly wasn't a case of us laying siege to their goal, but we did have more chances. Tim Barter was giving us a good outlet from left back and Adam was always looking to make progress from the opposite flank. We won a number of short corners and it was from one of these, with 5 mins to go, that we found the net. Lock laying it across to Ramiz to slap home for 2-2.

Overall, great that we grabbed a point and stopped Saxons opening up a 3 point lead on us. However disappointing as we conceded two sloppy goals and didn't play as well as we could and always would be looking for the full 3 points at home.
