Worthing 2nd XI  5  v  1  Worthing 3rd XI

Scorers:

2nd XI  - Lock 2, Ramiz, Minchell 2

3rd XI - Dand

A hard fought match was eventually settled midway through the 2nd half, after the 3rd XI had given an impressive account of themselves in getting back to 2-1 early in the 2nd half. The 2nd XI had gone ahead early in the first half, when Ramiz found Lock in the D, and he did his usual variety of tricks before scoring. Lock then returned the favour for Ramiz to make it 2-0 at half time. Whilst that looked fairly comfortbale for the 2's, it is fair to say that the industry of Allan and Duncan for the 3's in the middle of the park was causing problems. The 2's plan to attack with width was somewhat slowed by some impressive first half displays from the young 3rd XI full backs, Chipperfield and Symonds. Declan Luke was also the busier of the two brothers between the sticks, making some decent saves.

Adam Stephens looked comfortable at centre back for the 2's alongside the experienced Massie, who was tidying up any slack marking ahead of him. This ensured the ultimate 'Club Man', Mungo kept his sheets clean at half time. The second half plans to grind the 3rd XI into the dust were thrown into disarray, when some poor tackling resulted in a short corner, which saw the revival of the mid 90's classic, Dand-Allan-Dand-Goal. Game on.

It was scrappy for a while, whilst the 2's regained their composure, but credit also has to go to Rob Watkins, who was having a fine game at centre back for the 3's, following Lock all over the place. Eventually it was the class of Mark Minchell which decided the game, with two quick goals, both excellent finishes. Lock applied some more gloss late on, very reminiscent of the last 10 minutes the week before against Brighton.

A good game, nice for the 2's to have this banana skin out the way until after Xmas for the rematch. We will need to up our game in a few areas if we are to fulfil our ambitions of lifting the title, but fully confident in the squad to be able to do this. The 3's also looked on that evidence to be a top half side.

Team: Jamie Luke, David Edmondson, Adam Stephens, John Massie, Tim Barter, Arran Barker, James Cook, Mark Minchell, Matt Ansell, Ahmed Ramiz, Bryan Lock, Stuart Barter.
