Worthing Men’s 4th XI            1            South Saxons 3rd XI     3

Submitted By: Dave Parsons

Worthing started sluggishly. A trait that the 4’s have suffered from all season but not helped by the lack of a decent warm-up. Saxons had all of the early pressure and Worthing found it difficult to get over the half way line. Saxons first goal came from a penalty corner. Worthing failed to clear from several 16’s and eventually Saxons were rewarded with a second goal on 20 minutes.

Our pedestrian mid field made it look like Saxons had 13 men on the pitch. With a lack of movement at the dead ball 16’s Worthing again failed to get far up the pitch and Saxons had another short corner which they converted to make the half time score 3-0.

A few choice words from Ants at half time and Worthing came out of the block like a bat out of hell. An early short corner was struck by Marc Taylor and partially saved but Martin Stevens was in the right place to find Luc Hinton who tapped the ball past on-line defenders. (3-1).

Worthing continued to press but for 10 minutes Saxons held firm. The next passage of play saw the ball ping-pong from end to end but as Worthing tired Saxons once again pressed into the Worthing half and the chances of a comeback faded. Final score 3-1 down. Thanks to Robin and Ian for stepping up to help out. Also a big thank-you to David Carter for umpiring (second game of the day!)
