We faced Crawley this week at home at Steyning, we arrived half hour before push back and had a bit of practice, Crawley eventually emerged from the changing rooms and the game began, Worthing dominating possession but not quite managing to find the backboard until Aaron opened the scoring after 15 minutes, followed shortly by the second goal of the first half by Dan Lock, Worthing went into half time 2 – 0 up though feeling it should have been more, the play was good, the ball was mainly down their end with shot after shot, after a brief chat at half time we decided to carry on as we were, and we did but better.
The second half opened immediately with a reverse shot from Dan Lock, Crawley just couldn’t get the ball and do much with it rather different than when we played them in the first half of the season, the goals the started rolling in, with first of the season for Luke Beaumont, a second in 2 games from ever improving Luc Hinton, Dan got yet another from a reverse shot that most goal keepers would have struggled to save, Aaron netted a second followed by goal 4 of the day from Dan Lock. Final score 8 – 0.
Well done to everyone we are back to how we were playing just before the Christmas break, Aaron and Dan working well together up front providing each other with goal scoring opportunities, Luke and Jon in midfield providing ball upfield well and breaking down some attacks, Luc Hinton showing we may lose him next season to a higher team, Al Scott debuting in midfield as with some excellent work, and the defenders Ian, Mags, Dave and myself keeping the attacks at bay, well done to Dave for having his own game of hitting up and down the pitch from 25 to 25 with their central defender, and well Joe, 1 excellent save and …cheers for getting the ball from the back of the pitch occasionally, with only 3 touches in 2 games still ever proficient when the ball gets through. Lets keep this up 13 wins out of 13, An early start with an 8:45 meet to travel to Crowborough this Saturday, a twelve point cushion at the top of the table, but with a missed fixture on the 13th Eastbourne could close the gap to 9, Game On!!!!!
