Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
As we left the battlefield carrying the injured and wounded. We held our head high, knowing that we kept our dignity and were a testament that Brains over brawn is better.
We started off strong scoring within the opening minutes. With a new addition to the team Luc (The ginger Ninja) Hinton proving to be more than capable of fitting in and even showing us up at times.
Luc and Chris (another possible addition) dazzled the opposition with there 1-2 up the wing proving that passing round players is far more effective and dribbling.
With Daniel (scoring 2 himself) working in midfield and coaching at the same time these 2 only got better and they will know doubt be potential 1Xl players in a few years.
The gospels, Luke and Jon as always played with each other, on the left wing linking seamlessly with the midfield to create a plethora of opportunities for the forwards, who seemed hell bent on trying to put the ball in the back of the net through the Goalie or shooting from the base line. A quick talk on physics and solid matter and they soon learnt. Side arm (formally known as Guns) a shadow of his former self made a guest appearance and was gifted a ball on the top of the D with only the goalie to beat. In true form he wound up to annihilate the ball, Goalie and anyone else stupid enough to get in the way. Needless to say he didn’t disappoint. We now had a comfortable lead and settled down to play a steady game. The opposition at this point decided that they needed to change their tactics and went for brute force. With tackling that would make the grim reaper happy, a few of our player needed to come off. With our willing and able subs on standby we carried on being assaulted only to prove our composure and skill by scoring a couple more. This added to the fury of the opposition.
Letting the side down I found a hole in my stick giving their centre forward a shot with which he placed with precision into the corner at a pace that left lighting Joe motionless.
This was a wake up call. Dan French (Captain) and Al the Taxman kept the attacking opposition at bay while I kept the goalie company. With Tim (Frodo the hobbit) and his fellowship in midfield working tirelessly and managing to keep the grim reaper at playing distance we fought till the end. As Luc was about to shoot their centre back layout Luc with a tackle that resembled a UFC match! But its alright we were informed that he’s not normally a violent man. That’s ok then! The whistle sounded the end of the onslaught.
Thanks to their centre forward for coming back for teas.
Big thanks to Paul for umpiring.
