Well what can I say! After 17 straight wins this season and winning the league last week to lose to EG was quite gutting, turning up to a freezing cold win, we stood and waited, game eventually started 20 minutes late, so wish I had made use of the 15 minute rule.
A different from normal Worthing squad with Dave now gone to the Ukraine, Dan stuck in Jersey last minute with work and problems in higher teams meaning moving people up, but we went out determined to keep playing the way we had. But when their players came on the attack we realised that we might have a problem as they linked well forming good attacks, certainly not the same team as in the first half of the season. Half time 1-0 down after a goal, which was allowed but could have been argued as dangerously lifted into the D across the face of goal.
After a team talk we went back out, Jamie pushing up slightly higher from the defence and it all went wrong, two goals in very quick succession from the EG “ringers” leaving us 3-0 down, we fought back Aaron Chapman netting 1, but excellent saves from the EG Captain/Keeper kept us from getting back into the game although controlling most of the second half possession.
Final score 3-1, first loss of season but well done to all for the effort we made to get back into the game, thanks to Al Scott for stepping in to umpire.
Team: Joe Isaacs (GK), Dan French (Capt), Jamie Mantell, James Hussey (Mags), Sean Ward, Luke Beaumont, Luc Hinton, Marc Hinton, Chris Lee, Jon Humphreys, Aaron Chapman (1 Goal)
