Last game of the season, having not played Lewes due to them conceding the game in the first half of the season.
With the team back to full strength we won the toss and took push back, some good play from Worthing saw us pushing up the pitch and the scoring soon opened from Jon Humphreys, some interesting tackling from Lewes resulting in a green card. A second goal followed from Chris Lee. 2-0 ahead, Aaron Chapman took a ball to the arm and was substituted to recover, play continued and saw two more goals from the same two scorers, Luc Hinton took a stick to the back of the head and subbed of for the injured Aaron, starting to think the idea was to injure all our players. 4-0 at half time.
After a team talk we went back out confident, the clumsy Lewes tackling continued to match the skill of forward Dan Lock, injured Aaron netted his first 5 minutes in, Play continued for about 5 more minutes when an attack from Worthing resulted in another goal, but an incident further back on the pitch pushed Lewes to their limit. Complaining about our players and the umpiring Lewes decided to leave without umpires consent, game abandoned. Total play of second half 10 minutes, not the best way to end the season but oh well. LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!!
What else do I have to say, well done to all the regular 5th XI players this season and thanks to all the others that have played for us this season. An extra thank you to Ann Q, Ben Chip and Dave Parsons for umpiring most of the games this season & John Herbert for having to umpire probably the worst possible game of the season.
