Saturday morning saw the Wolves travel to Brighton Flippers.  Stanley Deason being the hockey destination.  Over the past few years Wolves have played Flippers at Stanley Deason in horrific conditions such as gale force winds directly off the sea or horizontal rain!  This time around the weather was fine it was warm bordering on to hot.  The boys got settled in with their warm up and Dan Lock and Rob Watkins gave their ‘what we need to do’ to the boys.  During the first half Wolves conceded 3 goals but they played some nice passing hockey. We had a couple of attempts at goal but these were well kept by their adult player or their keeper.  A few short corners gave us the opportunity but lack of speed and organization in front of goal were the cause of missed opportunities.

Luc was on occasion’s busy keeping Flippers’ attacks at bay. Dan Lock had his work cut out with directing the players on the pitch and keeping a half eye on the ball and the game. 

 

At half time hints and tips were given with the most important ones being:  Do not hit the ball, shielding the ball and look up before passing.  During the 2^nd half the boys tried these 3 key aspects with amazing results.  Jack Cooper shielded the ball so well that he got free hit after free hit.  There were some excellent triangular passing moves between Kieran, Dominic and Luke as well as others which had the Flippers worried.  Overall a good game of hockey was played.  Well-done boys keep practising and in the not too distant future you will see the results.  Thanks for Dan Lock, Rob Watkins in guiding the boys and Dave Lock in helping me with the tactics and advice on the sideline.  Also a huge thank you to Dave Parsons for umpiring.
