This week we went to Chichester with a small squad barely enough. We managed to persuade Richard Rudrum to play after many years. However, the team worked for each other. I think that finally something of the training sessions and half time talks are sinking in. The passing had improved. These were short and triangular. The pressure was on Chichester. Needless to say Luc Hinton was strategically placed up front in order to get past their adult players. On several occasions the ball got past the first line of the defence and some excellent passing took place between Luc, Adam Hart and Callum on the right and between Marc Hinton, Daniel Hulme and Gareth on the left. Once the ball got past the defence a moment of panic set in and the ball got hit wide. The defence were busy and with some good calling and tackles from Wesley, Jack, Richard and Greg ensured that the goals against remained in single figures! Travis was again in form. Mike Shreeve disallowed a high flick goal and only 1 goal got scored from a short corner. There had been 2 or 3. The first half ended 5 – 0 to Chichester. At start of the second half, after a very positive talk, the team got off to a good start, keeping their formation and playing easy hockey with controlled triangular passing. Cherubs were not prepared for this and Wolves pushed forward. Our goal came from a short corner that Marc pushed out to Adam who stopped it played it into the ‘D’ towards Luc who had to stretch to push it into the bottom right hand corner. Wolves were 1-0 up! Cherubs now even more frustrated and one of their players got shown a green card! Wolves kept Cherubs attack under control and Travis make some wonderful saves, some of which we are not sure if he was aware of it. It almost looked second nature! In the last few minutes of the game Cherubs won a short corner and managed to get the ball past Travis. Final score of the half 1-1. Well done to all of you and especially Richard and Greg who had a very exiting but tiring game!
