Worthing Men’s 5th XI            8     St Francis Men’s 3rd XI     0

Worthing at home in a non-floodlit game even with a 16:15 pushback. A stronger team this week aided by some unavailability for earlier games.

Worthing had pushback playing into the sun as St Francis won the toss. After last weeks 9-2 defeat to top of league Crawley we wanted some points starting well with multiple attacks but unable to get that vital opener either due to the many put wide or the outstanding skills of their keeper. Starting with only ten men on the pitch they managed to keep us out attacking once but easily shut down by the defence. Scoring opened through Luke Helmer converting on our 5th short. Dan Lock put one home to make it 2-0 before half time. Despite being 2-0 up Worthing knew they were not at their best and should have been up by much more. Determined to make this count and not slip letting them back we started strong. A multitude of attacks with 2 goals from Adam Fountain, another for Luke and Dan. Even Marc at left back managed to net one, also a first of the season for Andy Boxall converting a P-Flick which he won, this made up for a bad push out from a short corner rolling half way across the D which was then beautifully tripped over by one of their defenders to give us another short.

Excellent umpiring from John Beales and Barry Holmes. Final score 8-0 and 3 vital points.
