Worthing Men’s 6th XI 1 Brighton Brigands 7

The 6ths travelled to Ice Station Stanley Deason and faced a Brighton side containing a number of players who are obviously far too good to play in Sussex Division 5. We were under the cosh for most of the game and Brighton must have had at least 30 shots although not all were on target. Nevertheless, we battled bravely from start to finish with our veterans Bob Catlow, Robin Carr, Howard Wakeling and John Edwards setting a fine example to the younger players. Brad House had the most difficult role in centre mid-field but showed ability way above his tender years. Arthur Graham kept trying to progress down the right and Aaron Aitman often revealed his undoubted talent. Ciaran Dinning played his best game for the 6ths fully deserving his goal. Ollie Fenton made few mistakes and Josh Barron kept trying to mark his man. Many thanks lads for all your help. We were 3 down when John Edwards found Howard Wakeling. Howard released Brad House who moved the ball to Aaron Aitman. Aaron's superb pass found Arthur Graham whose shot was initially stopped but Ciaran Dinning following instruction scored from the rebound. Half Time 1-4.
The second half was, if anything, more one-sided than the first but we only conceded 3 more goals the last a penalty flick.

An unfortunate post-script which has to be said: If a Captain is giving his pre-match team talk and a member of the team is so ill-mannered that he turns his back and walks away, then that team member has no place in a sports club.
