Saturday 25th September saw the start of the 2021/2022 hockey season get underway. The Ladies 1st XI travelled away to Burgess Hill Ladies 3’s in one of the final matches of the day.
After the game we caught up with Ladies 1’s Captain, Nikki Burley to ask how she felt the game went. “I feel really positive, we work well as a team as we all got to know each other better over the summer; how we play together, our strengths etc.
“The game itself went well. It was difficult in the heat and low sun was right at our eye level. But we communicated with each other, passed the ball round and it resulted in Sarah McDonald scoring in the first half during open play. Throughout the second half we attacked well and gained a lot of possession.
“Burgess Hill defended well, especially their goal keeper and took a turn-over ball to score within the final minutes. It was great to see us attacking and defending as a unified team.
“In the lead-up to this game I feel we had the best pre-season. We motivated each other on and off pitch and we have a great coach who has helped with our positioning, skills and tactics.
“For the rest of the season to come I am mostly looking forward to winning, having fun and to show people what we’re made of….WHC all the way!“
The Ladies 1st XI are next playing at Home to Eastbourne Ladies 4’s at 10am.
