As part of its 125 year anniversary celebrations, Worthing Hockey Club hosted its first Veteran Masters Tournament at The Angmering School over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Featuring home nations masters internationals from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, the matches were of a high level competitive standard, whilst bringing all of the social element that comes with festival hockey over a holiday weekend. Opening with a BBQ and Disco on Friday 27th August, the hockey ran on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th August. The event took place in a tournament format for Mens over 45s teams and Ladies over 35s teams. There was a 3 course dinner on the Saturday, all rounded off with trophies and medals for the winners and runners up, before a Sunday hog roast capped off a full and fun weekend.

The Veteran Masters tournament was the latest in a series of planned 125th year anniversary events for the 2021/22 season, which kicked off on 31st July with a Gala Dinner in the club’s new Grand Marquee. The new events venue attached to the main clubhouse, saw over 110 guests gather for the club’s first get together in nearly 2 years ! We were honoured to have a number of Life Vice Presidents, current Vice Presidents and former players present as well as current members and their families at the 3 course dinner and dance. The keynote speech was delivered by Robin Carr, a former club president and the longest serving playing member with over 52 seasons in the bag. Robin is himself an England over 70s and 75s Masters International.
