Worthing Llamas V South Downs Skylarks ends in a successful season-starting 3-1 home win.
Saturday 19th September saw the Llamas play their first proper friendly match for the new 20/21 season against Sussex Development league opponents South Downs Skylarks.
Llamas made a controlled and confident start against a side that had beaten them last season.
It was soon evident how much they had improved when Issy Cooper scored Llamas opening goal from a short corner.
This seemed to spark Skylarks into action and our defence was put under extreme pressure. Some fierce defending from Nerea Kries Margaroli and Chloe Rumsey meant that Llamas managed to hold onto their lead, and then further extend it with a goal for newly appointed Captain Charlotte Blunsdon.
Further end to end play kept the spectators from both teams gripped until half time.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first with chances at either end of the pitch, which culminated in a well deserved goal for the Skylarks.
More end to end play, with competitive battles all over the pitch saw a series of short corners for the home side and eventually another breakthrough and scramble goal from Issy to complete her brace.
Chances came at both ends until the very end and I’m sure that all that watched would agree a very entertaining game and excellent result for the home side.
Llamas player of the match went to Sophia Bolton for some outstanding defending and controlled penetrating runs.
Well played one and all and well deserved 3 -1 win.
