Second Time Lucky for WHC Ladies 1st XI

Today (Saturday 23rd October) our Ladies 1st XI had an early start away to Lewes Ladies 3rd XI for their rearranged match from earlier in the month.

The match got off to a quick start with Lewes scoring early and Worthing following with an open-play equaliser from Katie Neil-Smith.

The evenly matched teams played well gaining possession, but it was Lewes that took the lead after gaining another goal taking them to 2-1 up at half time.

The second half started with a third goal for the Lewes ladies but the girls in gold picked up the pace and a strike from the top of the ‘D’ from Sophie Ansell encouraged the team.

It was very close, exciting hockey right up to the final minutes when Katie Neil-Smith secured a point for the away team with a third goal for Worthing.

Ladies 1’s captain Nikki Burley commented after the game:

“I could not be more proud of the team today. Each and every one played so well and that combined made for an excellent team effort. Especially in the second half where we capitalised on opportunities to score two goals and end on a draw.”

The Worthing Hockey Club Ladies 1s are playing next Saturday 30th October against Hailsham Ladies 2nd XI at 2pm away.
