Junior Hockey

Our Junior Section is fully inclusive and offers high quality coaching in a safe, fun, rewarding and appropriately challenging environment. We support all players to become the best they can be, both as an individual and within the team. We also encourage close involvement of all parents in seeking to promote and to improve the opportunities and experiences that can be offered by our club.

We’re proud of our Junior Section, and many of our members join through it – starting long connections with our club.

We currently have more than 80 members aged 6 to 18 years old, and our aim is to double this number by the end of 2021. We are also launching Community Development and Academy programmes to ensure the continuity of top-quality hockey for all members.

Our Junior Section is the heart and soul of our club, and is where we as a club focus a major part of our attention. We aim to provide quality coaching for all junior players, whether they are new to the game or have been playing several years. We develop our young players both on and off the pitch with a fun, exciting and vibrant atmosphere in which to play and socialise, and are proud of every single one.

Wolves Boys Under 16

Worthing Wolves competes in the U16 Boys Sussex Development League, which covers the whole of East and West Sussex with 12 competing teams. Our ambition is to provide a base to develop young players in a competitive but safe and enjoyable atmosphere. You will hear no yelling from the coaching staff (apart from when we score!), and the families / supporters are all encouraged to do just that – support! The team has always performed between half way and near the top of the table, and a lot of the current Men’s 1st and 2nd XI squads are ex Wolves players. The current Wolves manager, Steven Bird, will hand over to Dave Matthews and Matt Ansell (one of our juniors coaches) for the 2020/2021 season. The best part of the Wolves, apart from the players, are the families that come along and support rain or shine!

Llamas Girls Under 16

The Llamas is our girls development team, who play in the Girls Sussex Development League. We have players from 11 to 16 years old in the squad, and as a new team in the league this season we have  progressed hugely in a short time. The emphasis is to have fun whilst progressing skills and game play. Winning is great, but it’s taking part that makes us improve. Our ambition is to become the strongest girls side in the league, produce future 1st team players, but above all to have fun while doing so.  These girls are part of WHC’s future, and the support from their parents and wider community is second to none. The team is managed and coached by Rex Fuller, the club’s Junior Development Officer.

Comets Mixed Under 12

This is where our school and club junior players come together. The emphasis is to have fun and enjoy our great sport without the pressures of competitive hockey. Players benefit from great coaching, and learn about our club community, and how to be a good club member.

We actively encourage our juniors’ parents to be involved, so that they feel as much a part of the club as their children. After all, without their encouragement and support we wouldn’t have the opportunity to teach their children.

Minis 5-6 years

This is where hockey begins. So making hockey fun is what it’s all about. Coaching is provided at a pace to accommodate all players, while ensuring that the children are kept safe and engaged. These truly are the club players of the future, and we hope they’ll fall in love with hockey and keep playing for many years to come. Training times: Sundays 11.30am to 12.30pm
